The Sunday school is the Bible teaching Ministry of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church whose purpose is to lead the entire church and community to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ while serving Him in Worship, Evangelism, Fellowship, Discipleship, and Ministries for all ages.

General Theme: Living in and as God’s Creation

         

In these lessons study the student will learn that there is no excuse for not living a fully Christian life. Whether young or old, regardless of our circumstances, we are created and called to glorify Christ with our lives. So, in these studies we will look at wisdom from the Psalms, Job, Ecclesiastes and Proverb to show us how as God’s created being we are to live.

Unit 1: The Glory of God’s Creation                                  March 2006

Lesson 1:  “God Made Us Special”                                                   March 5, 2006

Devotional Study: Genesis 1:26-31

Background Study: Psalm 8:1-9

Teaching Text: Psalm 8:1-9

Focus Text: Psalm 8:4,5 – What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou has made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honor.

Lesson Focus: This lesson set the stage for the quarter. For what was man created to do other than exalt and praise the creator. Man is the crown of the created process. We are not God, but His creation, made lower than the angels, but made special and for a purpose.

Lesson 2:  “God Created Wonderful Things”                                        March 12, 2006

 Background Study: Psalm 104

Teaching Text: Psalm 104:1-13

Focus Text: Psalm 104:1 – Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honor and majesty.

Lesson Focus:  This lesson allows us to look and thank, God for His Created work. In this text the psalmist reflects on the glory of God, then he sees the angels as ministerial agents and then the glory of the earth’s oceans and waters.

Teaching Study Text: Psalm 139: 1-3, 7-14, 23-24

Focus Text: Psalm 139:14 – I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Lesson Focus: This lesson answers an age old question, is the Being who set creation in motion actually aware of me, on a personal basis? God tells us that He made us and He knows all about us and thereby He loves us.

Teaching Study: Psalm 145:1-13

Focus Text: Psalm 145:8 – The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

Lesson Focus: This lesson share that praising God should be continuous and shared within the community of faith. Praising is the Christian’s response to God’s goodness and mercy. Our Praise is a way to witness to others of God’s greatness.

Lesson Focus:   Job gives us understanding how to handle difficulties in life. Hard and testing times will come and we must keep the faith and know that God loves us, as we go through.

Focus Text: Job 14:14 If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

Lesson Focus:    Job in this lesson continues to trust in God when his friends turn their back on him and it seems like his situation is hopeless.

Teaching Study Text: Job 38:1,4,16-17;42:1-2,5; Mark 16:1-7, 9-14,20

Focus Text: Mark 16:6 – He said unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth , which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place were they laid him.

Lesson Focus: This lesson shows that the resurrection of Jesus is the underlining truth and answer to Job’s search in his suffering.

Focus Text: John 20:19 – Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week,… came Jesus and stood in the mist, and said unto them, Peace be unto you.

Lesson Focus:  This lesson use stories from both Ecclesiastes and John to show the fulfillment in the resurrection of Christ

Background Study: Ecclesiastes 3

Teaching Study: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, 14-15

Focus Text: Ecclesiastes 3:1- To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

Lesson Focus: This lesson paints a clear picture that as Christians go through life we are to focus on God’s purpose daily in our lives. We must learn to live today, for Christ and not worry about tomorrow.

Focus Text: Proverbs 3:13 -  Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

Lesson Focus: This lesson deals with the need to understand the value of wisdom. Wisdom is an essential guide to fearing the Lord. God is the source of true wisdom.

Lesson Focus:  This lesson the writer claims that wisdom is the foundation both of creation and the perceptive life. God’s word is the source for knowing what is right and just.

Lesson Focus:  This lesson focuses on the everyday values of integrity, righteousness, and uprightness in our social relationships. Our day by day action and interaction with each other, I cal it “playground theology”.

Teaching Study: Proverbs 31:8-14, 25-30

Focus Text: Proverbs 31:30 – Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

Lesson Focus: This lesson shows a picture of a woman, a wife, a person who set an example in kindness and sensitive to the needs of others. Able to transmit godly values to her children, husband and others she interacts      .
